I am irate about this movie. IRATE!! It’s left me seething.

It IS NOT a Star Trek movie. I know my Trek and this is NOT it!
The reviews aren’t helping either. Most of them saying things like “I’ve never been a fan of Star Trek but this movies is tits!” and “it’s a great movie, you can just walk in and turn off your brain for two hours.” THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT STAR TREK IS NOT!
Star Trek IS supposed to be thought provoking. It’s supposed to open your mind to issues you’ve never thought about before.

What this movie won’t do? Introduce people to Trek who for whatever reason haven’t bothered to watch it in the last 45 years. If you consider yourself a fan now I look at you as nothing more than a Bulls fan who didn’t like the bulls before they won the playoffs. Your just a jump on the bandwagon nobody. Even worse, you’re like a convert Jew. It’s nice to have your support but in the grand scheme of things you’re just not one of God’s Chosen People. Even God won’t recognize you. In Fact his book strictly forbids it.

Star Trek is rich with story, thought provoking, leaving you with wonder lust for the future. Not a 2 hour action movie with shit blowing up. You wanna watch shit blow up? Go see Transformers 2. You’ll get your monies worth I promise.
I’m not even saying this isn’t a good sci fi movie. I just wish people wouldn’t call it Trek because that’s exactly what it’s not!

I feel robbed and cheated by the whole thing. It’s NOT Kirk, it’s NOT Spock, Not Uhura (hello Nichelle Nichols had BOOBS! HOT!!) and so on down the line. This movie is nothing more than pretty people in space. They should have just called it 90210 in space. I could have gotten behind that!

There’s plenty of good Trek lore out there to draw from but the studio chose not to use it. Why? Because it’s not Main Stream! Because it won’t rake in the bucks like a mindless action movie will.

Additionally: Trek fans are generally (and I’m making a generalization here) so hungry for ANYTHING Sci Fi that they’ll take any piece of garbage that’s handed them and call it good so long as it’s got a space ship in it. Don’t believe me? Battlefield Earth! They love it!

Alternatively: Star Wars fans are so discriminating that they won’t like anything that ISN’T Star Wars. However if you take any garbage movie and slap “Star Wars” on the title it’ll be smash hit overnight no matter how much crap it really is.

If people would stop going to see crap movies, Hollywood might stop making crap movies. It’s just a theory; unfortunately it’ll never be proven.

Trek fans have set the bar so low by accepting any crap that’s out there I don’t see there ever being a return to what was once good and wonderful in what trek actually was.

Anyway, no one’s reading so I’ll stop writing.
